An Interview With Hayden Panettiere

Recently, Crave Online caught up with the pivotal Hero, Hayden Panettiere, just after she’d been saved in the fall finale. We can only imagine what’s in store for her in the second half of the amazing show’s first year. Here’s the interview:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our HeroCrave Online: Does the physical aspect of your role come easy for you?
Hayden Panettiere: I think so.  I hope so.  Both my parents played a lot of sports.  I played a lot of sports, when I was younger. I think the whole racing zebras [in Racing Stripes], figure skating [in Ice Princess] and all that stuff paid off, in that case.
Crave Online: Is there more job security for you, knowing your character is indestructible?
Hayden Panettiere: No, because they remind us every day that anyone could go.  Anyone.  It helps, probably, to be indestructible, but we’ve also realized that the key to people’s powers lies in their brain.  There was that scene, a few episodes ago, where Thomas Dekker’s character, Zach, says to me, “You could have died,” after Sylar comes, and I say, “I know.” The question really is, “Can she die?”  Let’s say she got that stick stuck in her head and they never pulled it out.  How long can her body survive enough to regenerates, before she really dies?
Crave Online: But they saved you, so everything’s okay now?
Hayden Panettiere: I’m not so sure about that.
Crave Online: How central will Claire be now that the save the cheerleader thing is resolved?
Hayden Panettiere: I don’t know if it’s so resolved yet. I mean, Save the Cheerleader, Save the World, there are two parts to that. There is always the fear of getting lost in an ensemble piece but this show does an incredible job of giving everyone their time in the spotlight.
Crave Online: Will the next few episodes deal with Claire’s search for her birth parents?
Hayden Panettiere: It feels like we’re starting a new season.  It’s been so incredible.  In these episodes, the writing, the acting, the characters have made this huge leap and it’s amazing.  My character is definitely running down that road of trying to discover who she is, where she comes from, who here parents are, if she’s alone.  And, you realize that it’s a very, very small world, and people have these very odd connections.  There are a couple big, big turns coming up.
Crave Online: Do you finally get out of the cheerleader outfit?
Hayden Panettiere: Sometimes, if I’m lucky.
Save the Cheerleader… Save the Network?
Masi OkaWomen keep running up to Masi Oka, hugging him and running away. His message to them:
“Please stay. I’d be happy to stay and make out as long as you want.”
Masi is getting public attention now because he portrays Hiro the time traveler on NBC’s new buzz hit Heroes. The character drama about super people who are just discovering their powers has been in repeats since November.
Sudden TV fame has changed the lives of actors on the ensemble cast, especially Masi, according to the Naperville Sun.
“One year ago, I was literally auditioning for this [show]. I was running around trying to get a job. And now people recognize me on the street,” Masi said.
“At the Golden Globes, I was starstruck just being in the same room with these amazing, talented artists. To have Tom Hanks coming up to you going, ‘We love your show,’ and Steven Spielberg saying, ‘We love your show’ … that’s surreal.”
Masi says he isn’t at all tired of the sudden rush of fans approaching him on the street. But quick fame makes it hard for him to find private time in restaurants, where he used to go alone to work or collect his thoughts.
“Now I can’t do that,” he said. “Sometimes, people sit down right across from you [and they ask], ‘Do you mind? Is this seat open?’ ”
But now Masi is lined up to do movies, thanks to the success of the show. Milo Ventimiglia, who plays power-copying Peter, had already filmed his role as Rocky Jr. for “Rocky Balboa” before the show became a hit. Ali Larter has a few movies coming out this year.
Hayden Panettiere
Hayden Panettiere, who plays Claire, has recorded an album.
One song is called, fittingly, “Saved.”
“It’s about a boy I was very close with, who actually drowned last summer,” Hayden said.
“He was one of my first-ever boyfriends in seventh and eighth grade. We were close friends. We were a little past the point of carrying books.”
Panettiere’s cheerleading character is the one who needs to be saved. The show’s catchphrase is “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”
But since Heroes is a phenomenon for troubled NBC, the show’s motto could be, “Save the cheerleader, save the network.”
An Open Letter to Hayden Panettiere
It seems like our girl Hayden Panettiere is becoming a bigger star each and every day. Which is great to see, but comes with its drawbacks. Like the possibility of her letting her celebrity go to her head, and hanging out with the wrong crowd. One celebrity blog, Suburbarazzi, penned an open letter to Hayden recently, urging the Heroes star to keep her head on straight as her fame grows. We couldn’t agree with this sentiment more:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hayden at the Globes

Dear Hayden,

Can we speak frankly? Heck, you’re MySpace friends with Suburbarazzi. Of course we can. You’ve got a lot going for you, girlfriend. Heroes is, like, totally kick ass, and that new song of yours, Your New Girlfriend, ain’t so bad either. You looked great at the Golden Globes (even though Heroes did get robbed by Grey’s Anatomy in the best TV drama category!).

Rockland misses you since you moved from Palisades to L.A., but it’s been thrilling to see your career taking off.

That’s it’s been so painful to see you on the road to Lindsay Lohan and Mary Kate Olsen territory. And that’s why, speaking as your friend, it’s so important that you stop hanging out with Paris Hilton (not to mention pole dancing and smoking with her).

It’s become painfully obvious that Mizz Hilton is running a boot camp for people destined to be on “The Surreal Life” or in jail for a DWI, and she’s interested in just one thing: turning you into what Steve Carell dubbed a “ho, for show.”

In addition to avoiding Hilton, remember that Britney Spears isn’t a role model either. And stealing her post-Federline boyfriend, music producer J.R. Rotem, is no way to go making a name for yourself in Hollywood.

Okay, check that — it’s a pretty damn good way to get attention. But in this scenario, you come off looking more like K.Fed 2.0’s arm-candy instead of the other way around. Never mind that you’re 17 and he’s 31. The man can produce your new album, but nothing more.

Finally, if you absolutely must partake in underage drinking, avoid boozing it up with gangs of frat boys holding buckets of beer and please spare us the “It was a birthday party” excuse.

So, to recap, no more Paris, less partying, and ixnay on the Britney. And please continue saving the world and being indestructible. And giving us a steady stream of blog material. That is all.

Hayden Featured in New Issue of Vanity Fair
